PUBLIC ACCESS TO COURT RECORDS

Although the courts are not subject to the Freedom of Information Act pursuant to Michigan Compiled Laws 15.232(b)(v), a Michigan Court Rule governs citizen access to most court records. The following local Administrative Order will advise you what type of cases are non-public records by statute.

Please be advised, this court does not provide record checks by mail, phone, fax or in person by court staff. Although we computerized in 1996, all records before that date are available through a manual search of our index books. You may review the books at the counter and make requests to see any public file. The attached order has specific numbers and time frames for the court to accommodate any request.

You may review our records at anytime during working hours. However, you might consider scheduling your record check from 1:30 pm through 4:00 pm. For your convenience, these times will allow court staff to fulfill your request on the same day. At other times you may find court staff processing cases and not readily available to process your request.
