JURY DUTY
If you are selected for jury service in the 65B District Court,
your term of service will be for a period of one month. District
Court jury trials are normally scheduled for Wednesdays and/or
Thursdays at 8:30 am or at 1:00 pm.. Although it seldom happens,
upon occasion we may need to set a jury trial on Monday, Tuesday
or Friday.
You will be required to appear one day in the month prior to
your service month for jury selection. This jury selection process
normally is completed by noon. Please check in at the counter upon
arrival at the court to ensure you are in the proper court. You
may want to bring your personal calendar with you to make notes or
advise the Court of any potential conflicts you may have during
this term.
Failure to report on this date may result in Contempt of Court.
Please call for a recorded message at 989-875-5240 after 5:00
pm on the day before your scheduled appearance to be advised if
your attendance is still required.
This system of jury selection has proven to be the most
efficient for all involved: you, the defendant, and the
court. By the end of this selection, you will know exactly when
you are required to return to sit as a juror for any trials
scheduled during your term.
The cornerstone of our legal system is the right to trial by
jury, and if we, as citizens, are to preserve that right, we have
a duty to serve on a jury. Moreover, a person is entitled to an
able and competent jury-- not just a group of people who have
nothing better to do and who find it convenient to serve. A juror
may be excused from serving on a particular day for a compelling
reason by contacting the District Court Clerk at 989-875-5240.
Parking information is available here.
We are sure you will find serving on a jury an educational and
enlightening experience.
